Christmas tree clogging up your hallway?

Now that we're in January 2010, you may be wondering what to do with all your Christmas and New Year 'extras'. Well, Lewisham Council has the answer. Click on comments for a full run down of where to recycle everything from your tree to paper chains...

Just a reminder that Lewisham Council is once again this year offering a free Christmas tree recycling service.

Residents can leave their Christmas trees at the following locations for collection up until the last week of January:

Hilly Fields - entrance in Hilly Fields Crescent, SE4
Deptford Park - entrance in Scawen Road, SE8
Telegraph Hill - Pepys Road/Kitto Road entrance, SE14
Talbot Place - Blackheath, SE3
Mountsfield Park - entrance top of George Lane, SE13
Sydenham Wells Park - entrance Wells Park Road, SE26
Forster Memorial Park - entrance top of Whitefoot Lane, SE6
Northbrook Park - Baring Road entrance, SE12
Mayow Park - entrance in Mayow Road, SE23
Chinbrook Meadows, Amblecote Road, SE12
Manor House Gardens, Old Road entrance, SE13

Recycling

Residents can also recycle all that extra packaging and wrapping.

Items that can be recycled include:

Paper including magazines, office paper, telephone directories, envelopes, leaflets

Cardboard including Christmas cards, egg and cereal boxes, sleeves off food packaging, empty teabag boxes

Cans including fizzy drinks and soup tins (preferably rinsed out)

Glass bottles and jars (jam and marmalade rinsed out) coffee jars

Plastic bottles ONLY, e.g. fizzy drinks, milk, water, washing up liquid, detergent bottles.

All of the above can be put into green wheelie bins, green boxes and communal collection facilities on estates and private blocks and developments.

Items that cannot be recycled include:

Plastic food packaging
Food waste, cooked and uncooked (please compost this where possible)
Garden waste
Textiles

Tetrapak cartons (eg orange juice cartons) can be left at the following places around the borough for recycling collection. Look for the black and orange recycling bins:

Laurence House car park
Sainsbury stores at New Cross and Forest Hill
Tesco in Lewisham
Grove Park bus garage
