Where do you people think you live? Time to get real?

Back in September 'Anonymous' commented as follows on this Blogspot - "bar/dining experience . . . art and antiques . . . Where do you people think you live . . . This is Lewisham . . . RIOTS, MUGGING . . . wake up . . . there is no Ladywell Village"

Interesting this, I think, and worth discussing.  Is LVIG a bunch of self-delusionists?  Are we wasting our time dedicating time and effort to caring for and improving our area?  Maybe, maybe . . . or maybe not.  I for one won't be deterred by one naysayer.

perhaps Ladywell needs a permanent travellers site to complete the whole rural picture . . .

Since LVIG began, the area HAS improved vastly. The group gives local people a positive focus that the area is changing for the better. 'Anonymous' is probably just a jealous Brockley dweller...

erm.. I think I live in Ladywell! Maybe 'village' is pushing it a little bit but since I've lived here there have been a number of fantastic new shops open such as Geddes, Oscars, El's Kitchen, En Gedi and the Ladywell Tavern has been much improved too.

There is still a lot of room for improvement but its all going in the right direction with a lot of help from LVIG and I won't be tarred by Lewishams brush!!

I think this is an interesting and crucial debate about whether its ever worth caring about where you live.

Without trying to sound too ridiculous.....An area is defined by its people, their attitude towards each other and how they treat that area. The more that people show a concern and an interest the more those that don't get marginalised and the better chance we have to "improve" our surroundings. That doesn't mean Ladywell should become something that it is not or that there are no more riots / muggings / behaviour the majority dislike.

However, we all have a vested interest in using the local existing shops / business and encouraging / supporting new ventures. I cannot believe that anyone contributing to these pages (either negatively or positively) wants to live in a ghost town or to see the agreed negative aspects escalate. To call Ladywell a village is pushing things, it never will be a village what it is is a community and that community ought to be able to improve itself. What it can be is somewhere where people want to live, interact, shop and run a business. There is absolutely nothing wrong with aiming for that and the LVIG should be encouraged to continue caring. I have grown up in Ladywell and seen the good, the bad and the ugly it has to offer and I would much rather see more good.

I have visited family who live in lovely Ladywell. How can anyone with sense say that it is not a separate little village haven of peace surrounded by the sea of refuse that is Lewisham. Please do not let this idyll be overtaken by the underclass that are all around it
